Cobham Satcom Joins the Mobile Satellite Services Association (MSSA)

MSS L- and S-band Operators to Play a Central Role in Shaping the Future of a Robust and Competitive NTN Services Market

Copenhagen, July 30, 2025 Cobham Satcom, a leader in the satellite communication industry with advanced end-to-end satellite connectivity solutions, today announced its membership in the Mobile Satellite Services Association (MSSA). This industry collaboration aims to advance the development of direct-to-device (D2D) and IoT connectivity through a robust ecosystem of Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) providers committed to seamlessly extending mobile coverage globally.

MSSA – launched in February 2024 – is dedicated to cultivating a global ecosystem utilizing L- and S-band spectrum, which is already allocated and licensed for mobile satellite services (MSS). This spectrum is well-suited for integration into a broad range of mobile devices. Through the coordinated deployment of technical standards and enhancement of regulatory frameworks, the MSSA drives new initiatives that support MSS-based services leveraging the 3GPP mobile standards.

The Association’s members, along with other ecosystem players, support integrating terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) to deliver seamless, scalable, sustainable, and affordable connectivity to any device, anytime, anywhere. Advanced NTN services are set to broaden connectivity options and enable competition across various sectors, including cellular, industrial, government, agriculture, automotive, and more.

“We are honored to join MSSA, as it aligns perfectly with our commitment to shaping the future of satellite communication solutions alongside our customers. This partnership provides an ideal platform for collaboration, innovation, and advancing our industry,” said Per Koch, VP Cobham Satcom Networks.

“We are excited to be growing this open forum for the collaborative development of best practices and to support an environment enabling the integration of terrestrial and satellite networks with seamless roaming,” said Mark Dankberg, Board Chairman of MSSA. “Attracting organizations like Cobham Satcom strengthens our efforts to collectively support an advanced NTN ecosystem.”
